During construction, more than 300 sensors were placed throughout the house. Researchers are collecting and using data provided by these sensors to evaluate the performance of the various building systems as they would be used in an everyday life situation. This helps them determine how each of the systems contributes to energy efficiency and how they are best integrated to optimize energy consumption, comfort and life-cycle costs.
How to Best Achieve LEED Certification
The knowledge gained as a result of this long-term research will provide a better understanding of cost vs. benefit in regard to the sustainable technologies used in the construction of this house.
In addition, international building standards will be compared to the CRLab residential model to determine the best way to achieve the residential building certification standards of ENERGY STAR, LEED, NAHB and IBEC.
